This is crazy good. Does anything give more information and afford exploring that information better than maps—especially the evolution of these new maps with data coding? It will take some time to explore these maps.
No, unfortunately that video was not inspired by my thesis. However, your comment reminded me that I had, in fact, written a thesis at some point the distant past and prompted me to see how the old pavage grants were doing. A Google search later and I saw that my article was the second (and subsequent) hit right behind the Wikipedia article. Not bad for a mediocre stab at academia. If you are interested learning a little more about pavage grants, I highly recommend the Wikipedia article.

Here are some others I have stumbled across recently:
This one may have been inspired by Ted's thesis—at least the first part.
This is similar to Ted's reference, but concerning the Middle East.
And these maps are just fun.
“Oblige me by taking away that knife. I can't look at the point of it. It reminds me of Roman history.”

And another fascinating map on immigration:

(Northern New England is my favorite - 100 years of immigration and their largest immigrant population is STILL from Canada)
Congrats! on being number 2 and a very funny comment.
