I am excited to announce (or remind anyone who already knew this) that Yuengling will now be distributing in MA. While not everyone in western MA is excited (dad, I'm looking at you), I personally will enjoy that epitome of fine craft brews
That you love the taste of Yuengling is indisputable. That Yuengling is "the epitome of fine craft brews" is questionable since it is not listed as a U.S. Craft Brewing Company but it is the 4th largest Overall U.S. Brewing Company based on beer sales volume (2012).
While true in the technical sense, I was more referring to wikipedia's extended description of craft or micro beer, as "characterized by their emphasis on flavor and brewing technique" While I can't say much about their brewing technique, the company clearly puts a premium on flavor.
Ahhhhhh! Massachusetts for the longest time served as a welcome place of refuge for me from the purveyors of Yuengling beer. It was comforting to know that I could visit family and friends in MA without fear that they might be serving it. It appears that I can no longer travel to MA with that assurance.
I say this as one who lives but a stone's throw from America's oldest brewery in Pottsville, PA but, for the life of me, I never understood the Harvey's devotion to this stuff. I just don't like the beer.
I suppose that it's claim to fame is that it's better than all the other beers in its price range -- as James once related to me, "It's the best of the swill." But, that's like saying that Wendy's Classic is the best of all the fast food burgers -- it's not company you want to be a part of in the first place.
I was feeling so upbeat about the world since Francis was elected pope. Then this happens and it all comes crashing down again.
I have (re)discovered the true "best of the swill" and it is a Massachusetts classic. I am talking of course about Narraganset. Yes yes, snicker all you want, but I challenge you to grab a six-pack this weekend and sip some of finest swill there is around. Come back Monday, and if you aren't impressed, well, than I guess you always have Yuengling.
I only have a passing knowledge of the San Diego beer scene, but it's enough to be spectacularly impressed. Alesmith, Stone IPA, Ballast Point Sculpin, Green Flash West Coast: one glass will convince you to set aside Yuengling forever.

I'm with Myk on this one. You really need to get out to San Diego where there is a craft brewery on every corner.
