The Game of Thrones, the first book in the Song of Fire and Ice series, comes to HBO in a couple of weeks. I was afraid that the show would not come up to expectations, but I'm fairly pleased with this preview. Apparently, they are strictly following the book (not a bad decision), if this is any indication.

I've been looking forward to this for some time. The previews do look good. I have to say, I only made it to half-way through book 4 (or maybe 5, whichever the last one was), and assumed it would just end up being another one of these endless fantasy series (a la Robert Jordan). Come to think of it, maybe that was the actual genius of Tolkien - develop a set story (amidst the hundreds of other stories actually going on) and tell it in three books and be over and done with it.
