There once was a lady from Kent,
Who routinely felt wholly content.
But she thought about dying,
And the bed we must lie in,
So reversed how she did it for Lent!

"It's so easy in our quotidian existence to get and stay in our rut — the things we do, the things we think about, the way we treat people and ourselves."
—Peter Harvey
"So for Lent we should all lie in our beds in reverse of how we normally do"
—Hmm…someone in the Harvey family in a Lenten epistle
"We all make the bed we must lie in
and tuck ourselves into it too.
And if somebody kicks, that will be me, dear,
and if someone gets kicked that will be you."
—Bertolt Brecht (often heard sung by Dave Van Ronk)

I'll stick this in a comment. A shout out to any who are interested, i.e. those with Netflix and without TV (and who haven't given up TV for Lent). A Game of Thrones, season 1, has just been made available through Netflix.
I'll talk to you directly, Myk, since it's been confirmed (with my post offering $100 to anyone who commented) that no one else will read this.
Were you the one who first wrote about reversing how one should sleep in their bed during Lent? I have used that both figuratively and literally (both literarily and actually). If you were the one, do you still have that epistle?
I have no recollection of saying or writing anything about reversing how one should sleep in their bed during Lent. I think that it must have been said by someone else.
But I sure wish I had said it. I think at least you should amend you'll blog entry to credit Anon.
Is it too late to collect that $100? Myk mentioned your blog on a recent visit to the Big Apple and I bookmarked it so you have at least one additional occasional reader.
Am I in a rut if I have yet again given up spirits for Lent?
Thanks for the Bertold Brecht lyrics. I'm sure you'll gasp but I had never heard of Dave Von Ronk but through the miracle of you tube, was able hear his rendition of the song.
…not only a rut, but, I suspect, a depressing one.
I believe the offer was to February 28th, supposing that that was the end of the month. Leap year makes so many unusual things possible, so you may have a case. Take it up with our legal department.
