That is a very well written, intelligent, and thoughtful piece. He doesn't get to it until the end, but, the real winner, as Peter H. pointed out in the Sagan post title, is 'humans'. In particular, all of the scientists and engineers who worked on Watson and Ken Jennings (and Brad Rutter) for inspiring them.
The next big challenge is to get Watson to write an evaluation of the Jeopardy! games as well as Jennings.
